SF Drabble #326 “Blue and Green”

They stepped out of the device and onto a grassy plain. “Not many places to hide. I should think it will be easy to find him.”

“He’s resourceful. And you forget: we jump around, but he’s in normal time. He’s had millions of years to evolve since we’ve been looking for him—”

“Evolve? How does an individual evolve, exactly?”

“Not everyone reproduces sexually, Mr. Green. And not everyone’s genetic code is etched in stone, either.”

“I’m not getting anything on the scanner, Mr. Blue. He’s not here.”

“Keep looking. He could be anything, Mr. Green; anything at all. Keep looking.”
